With the millions of wordpress plugins available out there, I wonder how is it going for a new wordpress developer to find the ones that are indispensable. I have been working with wordpress for as long as I can remember. Even after a decade I still couldn’t have my list finalize regarding the most indispensable ones. This is my first attempt to list my 10 indispensable plugins for wordress website. These plugins’ list is one I have been using for the past 3-5 years. Not much has changed in this list, except for one which I would particular mention later.
Indispensable plugins in terms of functionality according to me:
#1. W3 Total Cache.
W3 total Cache drastically slashes your WordPress site’s load time without paying a single cent.
W3 Total Cache knocks out the caching part. Caching speeds up your site by serving static files instead of dynamically rendered content (which WordPress is full of). I know that sounds a bit jargony, but all it really means is that your web server has to do less work and can, therefore, serve up your content faster.
Another really cool feature of W3 Total Cache is page cache. It is responsible for creating static cache pages for each page that is loaded, so it is not being dynamically loaded upon each page load. By having this enabled, you will significantly decrease your load time and server resources while improving performance. Refer to the image below to see how page cache works.
This plugin is an indispensable tool if you are serious with your wordpress website.
#2. Yoast SEO plugin
Since 2008 Yoast SEO has helped millions of websites worldwide to rank higher in search engines. This WordPress SEO plugin helps you with your search engine optimization. Are you not entirely convinced? Below are some of the benefits you get using Yoast SEO:

#3. Schema – All In One Schema Rich Snippets
Rich snippets provide site owners another way to communicate with search engines. Structured data allows search engines to see different types of content on your site, and use rich snippets to show additional information in the search results.
It gives search engines only the important & precise information to display in search result snippets.

AMP for wp, Automatically adds Accelerated Mobile Pages (Google AMP Project) functionality to your WordPress site. AMP makes your website faster for Mobile visitors.
Smush is an indispensable plugin for wordpress website especially if it use as a blog. What do you usually find in a blog that makes it appealing? Images, right? Smush is a free image compression and optimization plugin for WordPress. This plugin is maintained by the good folks over at WPMU DEV and is loaded with nifty features, including lossless compression, incorrect size image detection, and automated optimization, to name a few.

#6. A3 lazy Load
Lazy load means loading content only on the visible part of a browser. It delays the download of content that appears in the lower and unseen part of the browser.
a3 Lazy Load is a free WordPress plugin to lazy load images and videos. Through the plugin’s settings, it is easy to define the elements to be lazy loaded. It supports copying and pasting of video URLs into posts and pages.
The primary purpose of Lazy Loading is improving site speed.
Site visitors can start using your site without having to wait for all the images and videos to load completely.
It makes images and videos on your website to load only when needed. This saves visitors time and resource for loading of media that they might not need eventually.
Lazy load also saves your site resources as you would not need to send images and videos until when needed; and not at all in a case where the user decides to exit without scrolling.
And that is my 6 most indispensable wordpress plugins. There are others which i could have included in this list, like classic editor plugin which I really love more than the new gutenberg editor.
Anyway, do you have plugins that you really like that you think could be best included in this list of the most indispensable plugin for wordpress? Let me know, I would be more than happy to edit this post and include your recommendation! ciao!!
